Northwest Forest Pass
For most hikes, each vehicle must have a Northwest Forest Pass (or, if you are 62 or older, you may use a Golden Age Pass, see below) to legally park at the trailheads in the Deschutes and Willamette Forests (this pass is not required in the Crooked River National Grasslands and the Ochoco National Forest). A pass is $30, and is transferrable to any vehicle. This pass is good for one year from the date of purchase.
Golden Age Pass
If you are age 62 or over, you qualify for a Golden Age Pass, which is $10, transferrable to any vehicle the person of golden age is riding in, and does not expire. You use this pass instead of the Northwest Forest Pass to park at trailheads. For more specific information, contact the Forest Service at the Bend Ft. Rock Ranger Forest Service District Office, 1230 NE 3rd St, 383-4000.
State Park Pass
The Silver Striders guide will provide temporary State Park Passes when we park at a State Park; you do not need to purchase these.
Sno-Park Pass
Participants driving their vehicles to a snowshoe trip must have a Sno-Park Pass to park in the Sno-Park parking lots (including the Ochocos) November 15 - April 30. (You may not use a Golden Age Pass or a NW Forest Pass as a substitute for a Sno-Park Pass.) These passes range in price from $15.50 to $19 and can be purchased anytime during the snow season for that season only, expiring April 30.
Call, 541-383-8077, or email, strideon@silverstriders.com, Silver Striders for information on where passes can currently be obtained.
